Week 12: Final Blog!

Hello everyone!

Can you believe it? It's the last post from me. As sad as that is, it is time to be moving on. I had an amazing 12 weeks with all of you and learned a lot about being a digital citizen. I believe all my experiences and knowledge is going to help me throughout life and everything I learned here in this course is going to stick with me. Before I leave, lets reflect on what we learned and how it changed throughout the semester!

 As our task this week, we were asked to search ourselves on Google. When I did that,  I had to scroll down half way because nothing related to me popped up. But I did happen to find my Pineterest and Gmail. I was a little disappointed, but I realized that it's a good thing that I couldn't be searched. This is because I was always taught that safety and security is important. My digital footprint in the beginning of the semester was very small, so to see anything on Google is still a progress. Of course the more I become involved in becoming a digital citizen, the bigger my digital footprint will be. But that isn't what we want- we want our footprints to be positive and I believe right now that's where it's leading too! I think there is a connection between having a positive digital footprint and living and learning online as a digital citizen. The more you learn and live online, the more you understand what's right and wrong, thus helping you become a positive citizen.

As a digital citizen is it important to remember the rights and responsibilities that you have. Not only do you have to watch what you post, you have to make sure you give credit where it's due. As a digital citizen you need to remember that you have the right to an opinion but there is a thin line before it turns into a rude comment. As a positive digital citizen, you need to ensure that your posts are respectful.

This course has been an amazing tool in itself. It has taught me so many things from the basics of online interaction to the amazing tools I have used which you can see throughout my blog. This course has helped me become a better learner and has made me confident.

I would like to thank everyone who kept up with my blogs! I appreciate it and I wish the best of luck to all! It was a great experience witting to you all!

Weekly Report and Reflection #11

  

Welcome back everyone!

Can you believe it! It's the second last week and that means my second last blog for the semester. It's crazy how time flies when you're having fun and learning!Now that the school year's coming to an end, I have to find a job like many others. Of course when I was on Business Insider I came across something very interesting. If you're confused on a career path like me, look at the jobs that pay well. In this article, it gives you 18 jobs that pay well and are stress driven. So if you think your someone who works well under stress, then one of these 18 jobs might be your future. For me, I think i'm going to hold back and learn more about myself before I decide. Hope this helps some of you because as interesting as it was for me, i'm not quite there yet to choose a job.

So what did we learn this week? This week was very interesting actually because we got to use and try out some amazing tools for Podcasts. Podcasts are recordings of anything that a person can listen to and it's better than a radio because you can re-listen, pause and do much more with a podcast. Tools like GarageBand, Audacity and SoundCloud are platforms where one can create a Podcast and listen to other podcasts created. Of course I didn't get a chance to try all of the tools but the one I chose to try was SoundCloud. This was because I was already familiar with it and it was the easiest to sign up and work with. Before this week, I had only used SoundCloud to listen to music that others had posted and now I got the chance to create my own podcast talking about being a digital citizen. I think this tool is a great tool for becoming a better digital citizen because it allows you to give your opinion but you have to speak and record yourself. Although at first I thought it was awkward and I didn't want to record my voice, I think it was a good way to let my opinion and knowledge about a topic be put out there for everyone. When I was recording, I had to make sure I was loud, clear so everyone could understand. This helped me become more confident posting things about myself, including my voice. It has helped me become a better digital citizen, although it wasn't much I had to do. I would definitely put this in my PLE under create and connect because it's a great way to connect with the world and give your opinions and ideas. As Tyra mentions in her blog, "I feel that the tool helps you become a better digital citizen", I completely agree with her. I do believe it helps us become better citizens of the digital world.

Weekly Report and Reflection #10

Hello everyone!

Welcome back for another great week. Before we get started, I would like to share what I found this week on Feedly. Of course everyone is enjoying the warm winter that we have been having this year, but it is good for the economy? This article on CBC news talks about how the weather has impacted on the sales of pet coats and booties. Yes, people are not buying these items because it’s so nice outside. We are all happy and excited now, but this is not good for the world. This is global warming and it is really a serious issue. But enough of the world...

Can you believe it! We are in our 10^th week for this course. Soon we will be saying goodbyes. But for now let’s see what we learned this week. We got a chance to learn about some amazing online tools that can help us create slideshows. We got to explore Animoto, Fotobable, and Prezi. Before this week the only tool that I had used was Prezi, and the other two I didn’t even hear about. Slideshows are an amazing way to portray information to others about a topic of interest. These tools allow us to do just that. For example Prezi lets us make a slideshow about a topic of interest and you can add photos, and texts allowing you to follow a path.  Because I have already used Prezi, I decided to experience a new tool.    

The tool I chose to experiment with is called Animoto. Animoto is a tool that allows you to create a slideshow that flows like a story. You can add images to it like a collage and add messages or subheadings clarifying anything that can’t be told with pictures. It has many templates, which include different categories like business, education and more. While reading fellow peers experience with this tool, they seemed to have found it easy and simple to use. Honestly I thought it was a little confusing and if I had to choose between this or Prezi, it would be Prezi. This may be that I didn’t get to spend as much time with it as I should have. I think I might have not enjoyed it as much because it limited my text to a few characteristics. If you look on my slideshow page, you can see what I created with the tool.

Another thing that we learned this week other than slideshow tools was about copyright free images searches. I didn’t even know that we could have accessed Google’s advanced search for them! We got a chance to put it all in a slideshow explaining the difference and importance of copyrights and creative common. Copyrights are the rights to protect your work and creative commons allows the creators to invite certain users to their work, so your work can be controlled.

Overall this week was a very educational week! I would use the slideshow tools if I wanted to communicate with someone in a more creative way. I would definitely include this in my PLE under collaborate because I think it’s a great way to get the information across. After this week, I learned the importance of citing. Anything you use from the digital world should be citied to the rightful owner because it is his or her work. It is part of your responsibilities to do so.

Weekly Report and Reflection #9

Hello everyone,

Before we talk about all the great stuff we learned this week, I would like to tell you about what I found on my feedly. Of course everyone wants to be successful and rich, but there is a lot more to it than you know. This article that I found on Business Insider is about the major differences between successful and unsuccessful people. So if you want to be successful, then you should definitely have a look at it. They talk about 10 things you should or shouldn’t do.

This week we got a chance to work with VoiceThread.  It was the first time I ever heard about this online tool and I’m glad I did. After exploring VoiceThread and trying out its features, I was able to see how it works and what can be done using the tool. This tool has a lot of features and it relates a little to Google Docs I think. It allows you to collaborate with others around the world by sharing your opinions by commenting on topics. Not only that you could call them, voice message them or upload comments. Once you post your comment, then anyone can view it and also comment. You can also comment on individual slides in a power point presentation. I think this is a great tool to use in a classroom setting. For example my fellow classmate mentioned that it’s a great tool for educators to use in presentations.

The second tool we looked at this week was PollDaddy. Before this I had never even heard of it but thanks to this course I get to experience new and interesting tools every week. This tool basically allows people to choose an option and it summarizes letting everyone else know what people thing about a situation. I agree with my fellow blogger that it is a great tool to use for social networks.

Overall I think both these tools are very useful and I would definitely add VoiceThread to by PLE. It’s a great way to collaborate with others around the world. We got a chance to work with other classmates and add comments. If you go on my pages, I have talked more about my experience and uploaded a video of our work.

Use of Technology Scenario #11

Mrs. Smith considers herself to be a pretty savvy computer user. She has been working with computers for five years and uses them regularly in class. Mrs. Smith gets an email from someone she does not known but opens the email anyway. When she opens it, the message has some advertisement for a free gift, so she deletes the email. Several days later she is working on her computer and notices that her internet browser is working very slowly. She decides to check the computer with an antivirus program and discovers that she has a virus on her computer. She determines that the virus came from the email she received several days previously. How do we protect ourselves from online dangers?

            This scenario that I chose has a situation which is very common when it comes to inappropriate use of technology. In this scenario Mrs. Smith opened an email from whom she wasn’t familiar with and that resulted in a virus. People have been using email as a source of trying to hack people’s computers and they are usually attached with a virus that will ruin your computer. I know this because a few years ago it happened to me. I accidentally opened an email from an unknown user and it gave me a virus on my computer. This is inappropriate use of technology because I had to make sure my information was safe and that resulted in a long process. In this case, that is exactly what happened to Mrs. Smith. This is going against the rights and responsibility that one has towards the digital world. Everyone has the right to their personal information and it is your responsibility as a digital citizen to respect everyone’s space. This scenario was a clear violation of that. The email that was sent from unknown citizen makes the scenario inappropriate, but Mrs. Smith shouldn’t have opened the email if she didn’t know who send it. So Mrs. Smith wasn’t using the technology inappropriately but her opening an unknown email was not right. To avoid this similar situation in the future Mrs. Smith should never open an email she doesn’t know about or who sent it.

Weekly Report and Reflection #8

Welcome back for another great post!

While I was going through my Feedly, I found a very interesting video. Of course I know you can already guess where I was. You’re right! Business Insider. So this couple decided to quit their jobs and use their wedding money to sail around the world. I personally love travelling but could never take such a huge step. But hey each one to themselves. This is just something to motivate you to do what you want in life and never give up on your dreams. I know I won’t!

This week we got the chance to learn about Wiki. Wiki is a site that has made it easier for people to communicate information. One can freely post anything on there and anyone else can edit the information and save it—simple as that. The point of this is so that important information does not get lost and everything stays in one place. From the video you could see that there are two important buttons to keep in mind: edit and save.

Personally before this week, I did encounter with Wiki before. I have used it for as long as I can remember. Of course it is not a viable source as teachers mention it and that is for good reason. The benefits as we know are great—one place with all the important information but there are costs to this. Because anyone can share their knowledge, it becomes very opinionated rather than expert information.  Not saying that it makes it all bad. Leading up to university a lot of my “quick learning” for papers and reports came from Wiki. If I needed to know about a topic, event etc I would Wiki it first to get an understanding before going into details. It provides a summary of information.

Wiki is similar to other tools we have explored like Google Docs because like Google Docs, wiki allows us to collaborate with others and work together for one goal or in this case information. But I like them both for different things. I prefer Google Docs if I was to write something or work on a group project and I would use Wiki for information and knowledge—to get ideas.  I would definitely add Wiki to my PLE because I believe it is a great learning tool for my future goals as well as present.

Other than Wiki, we also talked about the rights and responsibilities of a digital citizen. We created a diagram of what we thought are the most important rights and responsibilities. As you can see in the diagram, I have many rights but the three most important that I believe are the right to privacy, the freedom of speech and legal rights.  There are many things I learned this week; about becoming a digital citizen and rights and responsibilities you have while being online. I learned it is the same as being face-to-face with someone. If you wouldn’t do or say something when you’re in front of the person, you wouldn’t do it behind a screen.  I also learned that as a digital citizen, privacy becomes a bigger concern because it becomes harder to protect but it is very important, in fact I believe it is one of the MOST important rights.

Weekly Report and Reflection #7-- Google Docs

Hello Everyone!

Welcome back from reading week! Hope everyone had a good, fun and relaxing week. I can’t say I did, but mine was worth every second! Competing in a competition and placing FIRST PLACE---yes that was the best thing that could have happened! Anyways getting back from reading week I was on my Feedly this week and I came across this video on Business Insider—don’t worry it’s different from the usual. This was about fruits and vegetables and how they looked before we domesticated them. I found it very cool and interesting, maybe because I love food! But I thought it was interesting so I thought why not share it with my fellow readers!

This week we got to work with an online tool that most of you are probably familiar with called Google Docs. I have used this tool before this class but I personally never made my own document or anything. I would just edit and work on my part and that was it. We got a chance to use this tool to work on our collaborative group project with our classmates to enhance our digital learning. I think this is so smart because your group and you could be in different places and it is possible to have a complete project done. The benefits of Google Docs—amazing right! This is so helpful because it not only makes it convenient for people, but it allows more than one mind on the particular work.

Google Docs is an online tool that allows people to collaborate with others and create documents, power points and much more through their own devices. It has multiple functions and it works as the same as Microsoft Word, making it more appealing and easy to use. Google Docs could be used for many things for example group projects, papers, essays, assignments and they could also be used on a personal level like notes. You could connect with people across the world and share your knowledge with each other. You can get more information and understanding on Google Docs video.

One reason I absolutely love using Google Docs is because I don’t have to worry about carrying my laptop everywhere just to finish up work. I can go to school and sit on any computer. Before this when I just used Google Docs to finish my part of an assignment I never looked at it in much detail so I never gave it much attention. I never pulled it out when I needed a document; my first instinct would be Microsoft Word. Now that I used it on my own and read fellow peers experiences with it, it has made me realized that it’s very similar to Microsoft Word and that I think is essential because it’s functions are helpful when writing an essay or anything for that matter.

I already have Google Docs in my PLE and I would definitely keep it for the future as well because I believe it’s a great tool. I would also recommend it to anyone who has not used it or has but hasn’t created a document on their own. It definitely changes everything! Hope this blog helps understand Google Docs!

Weekly Report and Reflection Post #6

Welcome back everyone! Hope everyone had a good reading week.

Before I talk to you about this week, I would just like to quickly share an article I found on Feedly in the  Business Insider. I know that I share a lot of business articles, but hey what can I do I just find it all so interesting. So this article is about Coca Cola and Pepsi using a new marketing strategy to sell their products. Not sure if anyone finds it interesting but can’t blame me, blame my interests and love for business. Just kidding! So this article talks about both companies diversifying their products and introducing healthier options. Of course we have to wait and see if they are successful at that.

So this week we got the chance to learn about an amazing tool called EverNote. This is an online tool where you can create notes, view them for later, share with fellow classmates and friends and keep everything organized in one place. It is a great tool because you can access your work from any device and work on it from any device. In addition to that, you can set reminders, and read your notes later. You can also add web clipping, which are added straight to your EverNote keeping everything together. While exploring EverNote, I learned that digital learning is way more than I ever imagined. I mean I only thought of digital learning as emails and finding articles, but through this course so far it has been much more. To be a good digital citizen, there are so many ways. Google Docs is also another way. If you want more details on EverNote you can check out the introduction to EverNote. Through these past six weeks, I got the chance to learn about different tools of digital learning. I did not know that any of this existed so I think I have already become a better digital citizen from when I started this course. Of course you could always learn something new, but it has helped me be a better student as well.  

EverNote is an essential tool for success and I would definitely put it in my PLE. Of course I wasn’t introduced to this sooner otherwise I would have been already using it. I think it solves all my problems because my issue was trying to access something from different devices. This makes it come true. I would recommend anyone who hasn’t already to try this tool out because it easy very easy and helpful.

Weekly Report and Reflection Post #5

Welcome back for another great post!

This week when I was on my Feedly, I came across an article from Business Insider. As everyone probably already knows this weekend is the Super Bowl. Who’s excited for that? So the article that I came across is about a football player Marshawn Lynch, who apparently has never spent any of his earned money till this day! Cool eh? I think you guys should all check it out! Don’t worry I am not a sports fan but this article was very interesting so I thought I should share it with you all. Who isn’t curious to see how someone can’t spend money!

This week we got to work with a very successful social media called Twitter. As everyone already knows, Twitter is a site where people can tweet their thoughts, things they like, dislike, the news etc. They can follow people and get followers as well as be updated with their favorite celebrities and much more. Before this class and this week’s activity I did not even know how to use Twitter. In fact this week was the first time I ever opened Twitter, let alone having an account. For some reason I don’t like having a lot of accounts so the only social media I ever had before this class was Facebook. Now look at me I have a Twitter account, Feedly and much more.

As I explored Twitter, I could see people who were interested in the same things as me and I could see what the world was up to. People tweet the most random stuff. I learned so many new things while exploring on Twitter. I learned how to tweet, use hashtags and I learned how this tool could be an essential part to my learning. When I was on my home page, it showed me tweets of a lot of interesting things and I feel that if I use this enough I will be able to learn and connect with all sorts of people.

As a learning tool, Twitter could help me keep to date with news, and students with the same interests and goals. I could also share interesting posts and tweets that help reach my goals because every new thing I learn will enhance my knowledge. I would use this tool in my PLE and I would put it under connect because this is a great tool to connect and network with people. Twitter fits into another thing we learned this week Personal LearningNetwork (PLN). This basically connects us with RSS, which gives us access to articles, websites and etc.

Twitter is a good contributor to becoming a digital citizen and providing knowledge because it allows me to connect with different people around the world. By being connected to everyone gives me the accesses to learn different things. Before this class I would have never thought of using Twitter, but after browsing around, I am excited to try it out some more and see how it adds to my learning skills.

Weekly Report and Reflection Post #4

Welcome back readers!

Before I talk to you about this week and what I’ve learned, I would like to share an article that came across my Feedly. Although I know previously I talked about what I love to do when I’m surfing the internet –watching cute pictures and videos of animals doing cute, adorable things. I also use my time for more important things. Many may not know but I am graduating this year and so that means I need to be looking for jobs. As I was on my Feedly earlier this week, I can across this article on Business Insider called The 29 smartest questions to ask at the end of every job interview. Like this many other articles are always coming out of what you should and shouldn’t do at an interview or what to include in your resume and etc. I find feedly helpful because it brings to me the recent updates in an organized fashion so I don’t freak out about the future. If you follow Business Insider, you can see a lot of great things from sports to jobs and much more.

Enough about business! Let’s talk about this week. This week I had the opportunity to learn about bookmarking. Before I even started the thing that came to my mind was the bookmarking option on our toolbars, where if you like something you can bookmark it for later. I stopped using it though because honestly it became hard when you bookmark something on your laptop and then you need access to it at school or something. But this week I got to learn about a cloud bookmarking tool called Diigo. Basically this is a tool which allows you to bookmark different sites and through different devices. Not only can you save your page, you can add notes, screenshot and highlight important information, which will stay for when you visit it next. After learning about this tool, I think I am going to use it a lot because I love saving articles to read later, or highlighting when I’m reading—this tool makes my life easier! I would definitely use this tool on my PLE.

With bookmarking it is important to know what information is good and what is TRASH. Of course everything online isn’t always important or useful, thus we need to screen through the valid and reliable sources. This tool is a simple checklist method that helps ensure that all information is reliable.   

Along with Diigo, I learned about content curation. First I had no clue what it is, so I did what most people would do, search it on google.  I found out that it basically means the act of sorting through large amounts of content and presenting the best posts in a meaningful and organized way. Once I understood that, I looked at some tools that were given and I think LiveBinders and Scoop.it were the two tools I would use. LiveBinders is a great tool because it creates “virtual” three ring binder where I can organize all my websites, documents, movies and images into tables and subtabs and then share my stuff as well. I think it is a cool tool in which I can do everything in one place. Scoop.it is also a great tool I believe because it creates online magazines on topics the author selects and then feeds it through social networks or blogs. When I tried these sites, they were easy to use, minimal details and a lot of good articles.

Weekly Report and Reflection Post #3

See I’m back again for another awesome post!

Okay so as I mentioned in my previous post, this week was all about RSS feeds. I’m not sure if you got anything out of my post because all I talked about was cute pictures. So before I start what is RSS? RSS in an acronym for “Really Simple Syndication” and it is a technology that is being used by millions of web users around the world to keep track of their favourite websites. In simpler terms, RSS acts like a bookmark for things you like to browse about.  It keeps everything in one place, so it saves time and it updates you will the latest news so you don’t have to search anything. Isn’t that awesome? I know!!

As I mentioned in my blog before I thought wrapping my head around this was difficult. I didn’t know where to start and how to organize it but I can tell you after a struggle, it is so worth it. I started off my RSS with the things I was interested in which were on the top of my mind like fashion, food and photography of whether it’s animals or the world. Another interesting one was news. So once I gathered the topics that interested me, I started to read around to see what I really like.  This helped me better understand the purpose of RSS, to be able to use one resource for all my sites!

As this week required us to choose what we would like to share, I decided to share the most attractive thing on my RSS. And what I waste all my time on when I’m not studying is cute overload. You can visit the site from the link posted in my previous blog. Another picture is the flash of white.

RSS is important to us because it helps us keep ourselves organized with the goals we have set for ourselves. In week 2, we were required to do a PLE and that helped us outline our learning environment. To keep ourselves connected, and collaborating with the world—RSS is essential. This is because not only can we have things we like on that, but we can have important sites including College Blender and our own university Brock News. This allows us to keep updated with the most updated news or events that are occurring. This is essential for success because to be successful, you need to always be changing.   

I would say RSS feed is a good tool to use and if this was introduced before the PLE, I would definitely have included it because it fits perfectly with my goals and the process to attain them.

My Experience with RSS Feeds

Hello Everyone!!

Today was the first time I have ever come across RSS feeds. It was a very interesting and confusing process trying to wrap my head around it. I will explain more about RSS feeds in my second post.  But for now, when I first started looking around, I got distracted by this picture of a dog. When I clicked on it, it brought me to a page of various cute animals doing cute things. It’s called Cute Overload.  On this website you can see the finest cute imagery. It also includes videos and people can post their opinions about the latest picture and etc.

Personally I am not a big animal lover. I mean I love dogs but anything else is okay. BUT regardless I love looking at anything that melts my heart and makes me say awwwww! Usually when I’m not studying or browsing the internet for news, I am looking at cute imagery. Like who wouldn’t enjoy a dog or cat doing something cute like rolling around or just sleeping! I suggest this website to anyone who is an animal lover or like me a softie for cute pictures.

Personal Learning Environment

Hello Everyone! We are back this week to talk about some things we learned while doing our PLE’s. First of all to get started what is a PLE? Well it’s an acronym that stands for Personal Learning Environment. It’s a great tool that can tell you what your individual learning habits are and how exactly you learn! The resource that helped me better understand PLE's was the Digital Study Skills website.  

This week I started off by creating my own PLE, as shown below.

As you can see I divided my PLE into five main categories: Education, Organize, Create, Connect, and Collaborate. Within these, I have divided them into subcategories of what I thought are vital to my life and my success. As I envision myself to be in one of the top management positions in the next 5-10years, I see myself using these digital tools and resources for my success. To stay connected with all the important people in my life, I would continue to use things like hotmail, text messaging and Facebook. Along with sites like LinkedIn. To keep myself organized and on top of my things, I would continue using what I already use because I have been successful so far and hope to be in the future as well. I believe I have a good habit of writing things down so I don’t forget them later.  For example, things like note pads, so I don’t forget deadlines, an agenda so I can keep myself organized and pace my work and a Google calendar so I know when things need to be done and how much time I have in between my tasks and assignments. To get to my future position I would need to collaborate, and as shown in my PLE, I would continue doing that through Sakai, until I graduate, Skype and Google Docs.  Even once I graduate, I would continue to use these tools because I think it has become a learning tool for me. I feel that these tools are helpful in keeping everything organized and together. Another main category I had for myself is create because we need something to portray our work. Alongside with the blogs and Pineterst, an essential creating tool I prefer is PowerPoint. I feel that I am comfortable using PowerPoint because I have been using it for so many years and that even when I’m in a higher position of some company, PowerPoint’s can always be a tool to a good presentation. Lastly, for my goals to be successful I need to be educated and that is going to continue through sites like Sakai. That is wherever I have any form of online assessment or site to keep in contact with my work.

As everyone has done their own PLE’s, they know how they learn best and how they are going to reach their goals. This tool helps every individual because it is made to everyone’s own learning ways.

Along with the PLE’s this week, we also got the chance to work with word cloud or also known as Wordle. As you can see below, I got the chance to create my own wordle.

Honestly before this, I didn’t even know that, that’s what you called it. I can say for a fact this week was an awesome learning experience. I got make my own PLE which I thought was so much fun because it taught me more about myself, and I got to see how a word cloud is formed. I think this not only helped me but everyone who did this exercise because it visually showed them what they are capable of.

Week 1: Digital Footprint

Do I really want a digital footprint? To be completely honest, I didn't know if I wanted a digital footprint or not. I've heard about all the warnings about having a digital footprint from my teachers in middle school as well as high school and how we must be very careful on the internet; but I never really realized that having a positive digital footprint could be beneficial for me in many ways. I came into this realization after going through the background information of Week 1 of my adult education course. So what is a digital footprint? It's basically a trail of everything you have done through the internet or even some sort of technology that you may have been unaware of until now. A digital footprint is also known as a digital dossier. In the digital dossier video the narrator makes an eye opening remark. She says that our earliest digital footprint is created through a sonogram before we are even born. 

What is a positive digital footprint? A positive digital footprint is a footprint in which there is no negative portrayal of an individual. In this age, I believe that it is very easy to be sucked into having a digital footprint that many people may not consider to be a positive one. I also believe that steps can be taken in order to ensure that you have a positive digital footprint. For example, just simply thinking twice before putting up a picture on Facebook or Instagram, just taking an extra few seconds and thinking would a prospective employer want to hire me if they saw this picture of me online? It doesn't even have to be a picture, it can be a negative comment made towards someone or something else. I found the idea of Netiquette to be very interesting and intriguing. Netiquette is essentially a list of 10 rules which should be followed in order to maintain a positive digital footprint. After taking a look at these rules and navigating through the website, I learned a lot about how to maintain a positive footprint, and so can you. After reading through the Netiquette website, you can even try the Netiquette quiz and see how well you know these rules. 

I have always been cautious of putting things like pictures or videos online and even the friends I keep on social media platforms like Facebook and Instagram. I have learned that instead of avoiding a digital footprint at all costs, that I can use it to my advantage especially by maintaining a positive professional digital footprint for social networking platforms such as LinkedIn. As a business student I have come to realize how important this platform is in trying to get a job in addition to networking and keeping in touch with connections. 

Based on the results of the Digital Driver's License exam I have learned that I need to focus on security. This includes ensuring that my privacy settings are turned on my social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter. But also beyond social media, and to make sure things like my anti-virus and firewall are up to date. Which is another essential part of security as well as maintaining a positive footprint, as anyone can play around with your accounts if you are not careful. 

All About Nisha

     Hey everyone! My name is Nisha and I am originally from Mississauga, Ontario. I recently moved to Brampton with my family. I am currently living in Thorold as I am attending the Goodman School of Business at Brock University. I am in my fourth and final year of the Bachelor of Business Administration program (BBA). I have chosen a concentration in marketing because this is an area of Business that interests me the most and I also have some work experience in marketing. After graduating from Brock I hope to get a job in marketing somewhere in downtown Toronto. I want to work in Toronto because it has always been a dream of mine to live downtown.

     I have many hobbies and I love trying new things. One of my biggest hobbies is playing sports, I play all kinds of different sports. I have been on multiple school teams during my grade school days. I have played on the football team and I have been on the cross-country team in my school for a number of years. I also love to play soccer, I am currently on an intramural team at school. I also love to watch all sorts of television shows and movies. My favourite way to pass time after a long day is to turn on Netflix, grab a box of pizza, cozy up into bed and watch shows. My favourite show is Criminal Minds.

     My dream is to one day travel the world. After graduating I am hoping to get a job in marketing. I am crossing my fingers and hoping that if I do find a job in marketing, it is a job where I can travel often. I have not been to many different countries yet, however, I am planning on visiting Europe with my siblings at some point this summer. I would love to backpack through Central Europe for a week or two. France is on the top of my priority list for traveling. I have wanted to visit the Eiffel Tower ever since I first learned about it in school, and I would love for Paris to be the first city that I travel to on my trip this upcoming summer.

     Another big hobby of mine is dancing. I love dancing and have always been on dance teams at school for as long as I can remember. I am currently on the dance team at Brock; we compete in a competition every year and this is one of my favourite times of the entire school year. I have held various positions for the dance club at Brock. I am currently an executive on the team helping to manage schedules for all of the dancers, choreographers as well as all the other members of the team.


The purpose of this blog is to document everything that I have learned about how the digital world can support and improve learning, as the digital world is becoming an ever-increasing resource in learning in today's age. This is a part of my adult education course that I am taking as an elective towards my degree.
